Tank heater question

if i put a under tank heater designed for a 50-60 gallon tank on a 20 long tank what would happen? would it be too hot, would it depend on the substrate? thanks

I'm not quite sure. I don't think it will be a problem, as long as you have a thermastat. But today I put a 10-20 gallon uth on, and it hardly did anything. So I had to get a lamp to go with it.

it is designed to heat a larger area so it will put out a greater amount of heat. If you put it on a quality thermostat you might be able to control the temps. I would be careful about hot spots getting to hot as some people have mentioned UTH's reaching temps over 100.
