Oh yeah...it was my time. As a card carrying member of Bite Club (we do not TALK about bite club!), it was bound to happen...

Came home yesterday to a a very large and empty burmese python cage, door lock on the floor, sliding glass door slid over a couple of inches...

    *HEART ATTACK!*

Granted, I thought, it can't be too bad finding a 12' big yellow snake. I ran downstairs where I had seen my cat Nicky, grabbed him, who thankfully was still alive and not in said big snake's belly, and started hyperventilating. Thinking of where I was going to stuff the cat while I searched...first thinking the downstairs bathroom (checked first for the snake) and then thought of the upstairs bathroom where his litter box and food were.

I'm gripping Nicky now so tightly he's wailing (cats are such whiners). I race back upstairs and think as I'm passing the snake nook on my way to Nicky's bathroom "Lourdes has got to be near his cage" and look behind the cages - no Lourdes.

As I turn around to take Nicky to his bathroom, who do I see coiled underneath a table, sleeping and cold, not 4' from his cage?

Moral of the story, kids...ALWAYS double check those locks. :colbert:

WOW! That would have been bad had he felt the need to explore further that tasty kitty scent. Glad you found him right away. *whew*

Yeah...my hubby Rick thinks that the Lourdes must not associate kitty scent with food since he's certainly smelled cat before on us and in the house...that and I'm guessing they just didn't run into each other during the day as Nicky sleeps in our bed all day.

Oh WOW! I would have been freaking out too with a cat and a 12 foot burm running loose. But it's great that you found him OK. They never seem to get very far from the enclosures...

Exactly how much does a 12' burmese python weigh! I'm thinking it has to be tough for you to handle him by yourself.

glad the cat is ok..........and i'm really happy that you found him!

He was fed at the minimalist end by his previous owners, not to detriment, but he's not tubby by any means...35-40lbs, depending on food and poo status. =)
