Finally Got A Full Shed!!!!
Hey everybody it's been a while since I have been on here. I had a lot going on over the holidays. I hope all of you had happy holiday's as well. Any way I just thought that I would let everybody know that I had my first shed last night with "Cuda"! When I got her she was having problems shedding and I wasn't sure what to do. I knew that I needed to keep the humidity up to par but she was still having trouble losing an eye cap. So about 4 Days ago I took her to a herp person out here at our local pet store and she help me remove the eye cap. She then told me that Cuda was going through another shed. Well my girlfriend suggested putting a couple of paper towels on top of the tank and misting them and keeping them moist. That did the trick it was like having a cloud above her tank that kept the humidity in. I was very pleased to see her do a full shed.....from head to tail all in one! It was also funny because there was about 4 huge turds, one pill of pee and 2 urates under the log where I found her shed. I am going to try and post pics hope they work.

Re: Finally Got A Full Shed!!!!
Don't mind the date on the pics. My camera screen is broken so I can't see to change the date. It also makes it really hard to even take pics. Also please let me know what you think of the cage setup and if there is anything I can do to make it better and more comfortable for her.
Re: Finally Got A Full Shed!!!!
Hi there! Nice, someone else from Oregon!! :P
Regarding your tank, I have heard many people suggest covering the back and sides with dark paper as this will help decrease the herp's stress levels due to perceived exposure to predators. You might want to consider this.
Also, I'm wondering if the hides are on cool and hot sides of the tank? It sort of seems that maybe they aren't.
Another way to help bump humidity is to plastic off the part of the top that you have the paper towels on and then wet and wad the paper towels up and put them in a hide and also on top of a hide. Living here in Bend, Oregon, humidity is a factor for me even though I have a herp cage (from Rich at RBI). I did the paper towel trick and it bumped the humidity about 7%. :) However, you got a good shed, so that's awesome!!
Your herp is a beauty! How old? I can't wait for mine to come but this snowstorm we're currently receiving is really putting a damper on my plans! :taz:
Re: Finally Got A Full Shed!!!!
Cuda looks nice... May I suggest, I could be wrong. I found out to use a washcloth, wet it squeeze some of the water, then hang it inside the cage at the top. It seems to do the trick here with my snake. I live In Georgia. Winter time is hard to get the humidity where it should, but come Spring & Summer.. no issues here.:snake:
Re: Finally Got A Full Shed!!!!
Thank you both for your replies. Starmom...my cage is black out on the side and the back. Also under neath the large hide there is a heat pad that keeps the temp around 90-93. The other hide was actually put in there for a rough surface for her to rub on during the shed. She does go in the every once and a while when the other hide gets to warm. Thank you for your input I love to hear others opinions. I think that is why this site is so nice. Reptile3 I think the rag is a good idea. I will have to try that out next time she goes through a shed. The paper towel thing works great to. I don't have to mist the cage and it keeps the humidity up between 50-60. Again thank you both for your opinions.:):):)
Re: Finally Got A Full Shed!!!!
Congrats!! You did the right thing to retain humidity, and it paid off in a clean shed. I wish that more people would do this :)
