Westen Hognose
I'm thinking of getting 1 or 2, and was wondering if they are cannibalistic. Can 2 live together?
Thanks!!!!! :):):):)

Re: Westen Hognose
Hello,
I owned a Western Hognose for about two years and I do recommend them as pets.
I loved "Piglet's" feeding response and his "personality".
Every now and then if his f/t pinky gave him attitude, he would puff up and show a bit of his Cobra side...lol.
I loved him to pieces but actually traded him for a couple female Ball Pythons from a local breeder because BPs are my true love.
Do get one, it is worth it.

P.S. I do not recomend two in the same enclosure, the male stays tiny and the females become giants..too much competition for hides,heat,ect...lol..good luck!

Re: Westen Hognose
I own a few hognose and love them. I sold off my few ball pythons to concentrate more on hognose. Hogs have been known to be cannibalistic. I have not experinced this myself but do not wish to either. Good luck!

Re: Westen Hognose
You know they have a mild venom correct? And it's never a good idea to house 2 snakes together. These guys are really cute and I'd like them more if they got bigger. I hope you can convince your parents and that you've read up on them before hand! :)

Re: Westen Hognose
I'm a new hoggie owner, and I would recommend them too. They are really cute, and mine seems to have quite the little attitude! There is nothing funnier than a 6 inch snake that swears he's a retic:) They are also more active during the day, which is cool.

The venom is nothing to worry about. The only way you can actually get bitten is by smelling like snake-food, (just like any other kind of snake), so just don't put the mouse in with your hand. There is no other way to get bitten by a Hognose, so you have nothing to worry about when it comes to bites. Back on topic: They are potential snake-eaters, so you should not keep them together (you really shouldn't keep any snakes together in the same enclosure). But yeah, you should get a Hogger. Some of the pros of Hoggers is that they basically don't bite, they don't grow huge (but for what they lack in length, they make up for their really muscular body build), and they have really nice patterns (oh yeah, and ink-black bellies. Is that cool or what?). There just aren't enough Hognose owners in the world! You really should get a Hogger! P.S. Why are there so little Hognose owners?

Re: Westen Hognose
a lot of snakes will thrive and breed when house in pairs... carpets and boas for example.
hognose snakes are highly cannibalistic though. i wouldnt house them together.

Re: Westen Hognose
Cool!!!! Yup. I definitely want some. I have my eye on an albino..... but, my parents said 2 snakes were the limit.. :tears: :tears: :tears:... and I currently have 2. I need one more corn snake to breed :), so the hoggies are second on the list. I figured I might have more of a case if I could keep a breeding pair together year round.......
Thanks for the replies!!!!
