Petco sucks!

:rage:i went to a different petco today to go looking at some animals and we were looking at this frog.(i forget what kind though) he had blood dripping down his head!:O i looked at hi eye and it was missing. i went over to the one of the people working there and she said that she woyld take the frog to the vet tomorow!:O i just shook my head and went over to another employee and started ranting about that and how the ball python cage had an extra extra large hide in the cage and the ball pythons looked to be only a few days old. they wernt even a foot long. the guy looks at me and says sarcasticly "oh ok i will get on that rite away" and he walks off in the other direction! wtf im done i cant stand them! sorry for the rant!:rage: oh yeah the guy that i told about the ball python and the HUGE hide was laughing as he walked away! rrrrrgh

I hear ya... thats the way most major chain stores are.

I went to one here a couple weeks ago. There was a baby leopard gecko dead floating in the obviously too deep water dish. Again, just a few weeks old. I told someone and two employee's walked over and said, "Oh no he is fine, see he is breathing. Just getting a drink"

I was like " Are you freaking blind" Although not in those exact words.

Under trained/educated about the animals, under paid employees. Corporate that doesn't care, and the general public who are clueless as to what is really happening in these stores. Put all of those together and you get "where pets come first"...

Sadly the majority of the employees are idiots :mad:.It all starts with the ignorant company and the management though ;)

you are so much better off just walking away. and if it bothers you just dont go back. no matter what you say or how many letters you send they will just blow you off. sad but oh so true.

Personally, my tactic is to stay calm (no matter how upset I may be) and act pleasant but concerned. I speak directly to make my points known, and then I carefully listen to the reply. I make sure to get the name and/or rep-number* of whoever I'm speaking to, even if they are being totally nice.

If, despite my civility, they respond with sarcasm or any other form of negativity, I politely ask to speak to the manager. If the manager is on par with the sales staff, then I contact head office.

I've found that a well written letter to head office, or a polite phone call - expressing concern, not just for the animal, but also for the way paying customers are being treated - can do wonders.

Floor staffers come and go, but when you start speaking to the people higher-up, often with stock options in the company, you start getting to the powers behind the veil and they are much more interested in listening and responding to customer complains. Usually.

* Before speaking to the sales staff about your concerns, introduce yourself and ask their name. That way, if the conversation goes badly, you still have their name to go by. Usually a rep-number will be displayed, too, but if you ask for it most companies have a policy that the employee can't refuse to give it. Either way, make sure to note the exact time and day of the event. Head Office can look up who was working and figure out who you were speaking to.

lol I here that everyday at work (petsmart).... Always something like I bought one fish there and it killed my whole tank cuz of ich. Or I went to get my dog groomed and they lost it. The list goes on.... But I go over there every so often and man I feel for the the animals....

I have an amazing petsmart down like 40 miles away from me in colo. springs. the person in there is a breeder, and has a perfect set up cages for all the reptiles. i know this because she brought up the small hides and how she has been breeding reptiles for years. great person! but most petco's suck!!!!

You don't put the blame on the employees, it's ultimately the company's fault for hiring minimum wage labor and not training them in any way, shape or form!

It varies store to store, my store is great and we have some great employees, but i do have some employees that are less than stellar. You just have to be smart enough not to believe everything a pet store employee says and take the good and the bad. Otherwise its a real good laugh to hear what some people say how to care for animals. "Birds love seeds they are so good for them!!!"
