Ranco ETC-111000 is this a good/bad thermostat why?
looking to buy this unit, wiring is not a problem for me at all. How reliable is this unit?
Re: Ranco ETC-111000 is this a good/bad thermostat why?
The Ranco is a good dependable t-stat if you want an on/off t-stat. We have several of them in service along with some Johnson A419s. I prefer the Johnsons over the Rancos, because the Johnson has a few extra features.
I prefer proportional t-stats and will eventually have all of my racks set up with proportional t-stats with on/off t-stats backing them up.
For incubation we use proportional t-stats with on/off back up.

Ranco is a reliable brand. I wouldn't hesitate to use one if I needed one and had one.

All I use are Ranco's - I like them...

Would it hold the set temperature after a power failure?

Yep. Ranco is good... I just purchased three of them. Also have a Johnson's. Both very good brands.
They are on/off thermostats. You set the prode against your heat source and set the temperature you desire. Once the heat source hits that temp, the thermostat switches the source off. If it drops below that temp, it switches on.
Basically, you have to make sure the temp the heat source is set at is providing enough heat to your cage... your source might have to be set at a higher temp to get the correct temps inside the enclosure.
