Leo Questions

First off...who are some of the best breeders ?

Im looking for some albino's or hypo tangerines.....maybe two females and a male.

Second...I want to setup thier terrarium as a semi decorative/display terrarium. Ive heard you can use slate or tile but what about dried moss or carpet ?

Third....i need a list of all the calcium/ supplements i would need

im planning on feeding a diet of mostly mealworms supplemented by waxworms, phoenix worms and crickets every now and then.

As far as heat....i should be good with and undertank heater and a daytime/nightime heat lamp right ?

what type of wattage would you reccomend for either a thirty gallon setup or a ten gallon ?

slate or tile will work best for substrate. moss isn't usually used in leo enclosures except for humid hides/lay boxes and insects can easily hide in it making it hard for the leos to eat and hard for you to regulate feeding. carpets get stinky and gross fast and it is hard to really disinfect them well enough.

i dust with rep-cal calcium (phosphorus-free with vitamin d3) and rep-cal herptivite. a dish of the calcium should also be available in the enclosure at all times.

i only use flexwatt for heating leo enclosures. the only reason to use a heat lamp is if your temps are too low without one (cool side 78, warm side 88-90 degrees) or for viewing purposes (in which case you can use a flourescent bulb with will last longer and doesnt' put off heat).

Ditto on all of that, make sure your humid hide is moist at all times, that is one of the biggest mistakes made, and do not use sand as a substrate, some do, with no problems, but some don't, so why take the chance? I am also a gecko breeder, not in the class of the ones listed above, but Im working on it, gonna take some time to get to that level. Hope this helps.

As far as substrate....

I was thinking, since sand is generally bad i was going to go with slate rocks/tile.

Im going to try and explain my idea, its not complicated but a little bit difficult to describe.

I was thinking about laying down a very very small amount of sand (calm down....hold on) and then laying down as much slate rock and or tile over it. A very small amount of sand MAY or may not be exposed. 98% of the ground will be covered with slate rock with maybe only the corners or small spaces where the slate rock meets having sand exposed....im going to post a picture to better illustrate my idea.

My main goal is to create a safe, functional yet decorative display for these gecko's.

Im thinkin these guys will end up on paper towels anyway and since it will be a month or two before i aquire them, im playing with a few ideas and trouble shooting now as opposed to later.

My dad is an expert Tile-er so i'm sure i can rig something up myself.
