Keeping a rat?

Well when I bought some feeders this week I asked for some small/weaned rats. I got something that was a little to big for my one girl and decided to hold off.

The rat I didn't feed off is kind of cute and appears to be a hooded rat from browsing some of this forum. Now my question is would it be acceptable to keep this rat in my rack. The rat would be in my last tub.

I'm not sure if this is a suitable enclosure(32qt) for a rat. I know that the rat would need company so If I decide to keep him I will get another rat of the same sex. I have no plans on breeding rats right now, but I would like to keep maybe two as pets.

I have seen many rat racks on these forums, but reading various care sheets racks or tubs aren't listed.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

they stink....just keep that in mind when you put it in a tub that has little ventilation

Yes I forgot to mention that. I usually put around 100-150 holes with a soldering iron in my tubs. I wasn't sure if that was enough.

Have a look in the Feeder forum for ideas on making a rat tub using hardware cloth to provide the ventilation. Holes in a plastic tub usually don't provide enough ventilation and often will encourage the rat to chew out.

You're talking about putting him in your snake rack? The temps will be too warm for the rat if that's what you're asking. So no - I wouldn't house a rat in an empty snake rack tub.

Yea, I wouldnt do that. I'd be much too warm, and little ventilation. Rats pee and poo alot, that's just not enough ventilation. The tall sterilite with the top cut out and covered with hardware cloth is a much better solution.
