viable sperm for how long

I was wondering how long sperm can stay viable in a female. I am sure it can vary but I was just trying to get a ball park idea.

There have been documented reports of snakes retaining sperm for up to four years, although I'm sure that is not the norm. I wouldn't be surprised if Balls can retain viable sperm for over a year, though.
