Took my BP out & wierd sounds
    Hey guys,

I got my first BP a few weeks ago, and took him out while I cleaned out his cage a bit, today.

As i had him in my hand i noticed a whistle-like sound emits from him as he breathes. Is this normal? It was pretty quiet, but noticeable.

    Thanks a lot.

Unless it is a consistant wheez I wouldn't worry about it. Just monitor it. I have had my pastel just sit there an hiss at me(at the time I though RI), but havn't heard from him since. Just monitor it and if it seems consistant it could be an RI and a vet check is in order.

Could be stuck shed in his nostril or an URI - or maybe just a fluke. As Brimstone said, monitor it - if it continues, especially after the next shed, take him to a herp vet - but don't wait until his next shed if you start to notice it more or he starts to pop when he breathes.

    Good luck!

    PS Admin, move to husbandry?

My male does the same thing, but in his second year he had a severe respiratory illness. Ever since, he has emitted this low wheezing sound, as if he were breathing heavily, and he's a good healthy snake. I'd say it's nothing to worry about, but just to watch for further signs of a problem.

By the way, I'm new here :)

Welcome aboard! Introduce yourself in off-topic cafe and tell us about your herps!

My BP just got over an URI but still pops. I guess that is different than wheezing? I have a call into the vet now.

PS Should this be in husbandry?
