    URGENT Power strip failed!
And the temps in my QT BP rescue tank plummeted to 71! I have everything on a spare strip now, and the stat on its own extension cord direct to the wall, and things are rising again, but judging by the timer it must have failed two hours ago.

Will he be ok after two hours of temps in the 70's???

provided he was healthy before the drop the couple of hours shouldn't hurt him. If he had something else wrong (that the stable temps masked or kept in check) the drop might trigger it coming out. Just make sure to keep a close eye on him for the next several days and at any sign of issue take him to the vet.

    Hope this helps.

Like Sean said hon just keep a close eye on him. If tonight was a planned feeding night, I'd probably push that back a few days to make sure the snake is fully warmed back up, isn't suffering any noticeable ill effects and it's stressed out from the sudden temp drop.

The bp I have (my bro-in-law's) was kept at 70-ish for God knows how long, and it seems ok.

Thanks, everyone, for the quick responses. Waking up and seeing that this morning really freaked me out.

Since he's so small and underweight, I have him on a five day feeding schedule right now, so I'll be offering food again on Saturday. He did eat on Monday, and he's kept it down, so we'll see how he goes this weekend.
He's moving at least, and is curled up in his warm hide which is now back to 91.4, so hopefully there were no ill effects. I will certainly be keeping a closer watch for a few days to make sure.

Thanks again! You guys really helped to calm me down. :)

You know this thread reminded me to finish my search for a product I remember seeing last year. It's a simple device you plug into a wall socket, then plug things into it. If power is interrupted at all, it tones loudly like a smoke detector sound, to alert you you've blown a fuse or something's not right with the power source. I believe I found it on a site for medical stuff and it was only around $40.00. I need to locate that again. Sounds like a handy thing to have in use.

imagine ball pythons in the wild. when it gets stormy, or cold for a week or two due to weather. im sure they are fine. i highly doubt that it stays exactly the same temp 365 days of the year

Actually Pat I did a bunch of research last year because I wondered about the same thing. Everything I found from research done in the field in Africa said that the rat burrows and the termite mounds that most wild bp's live in are incredibly stable temperature wise. Really doesn't much matter what is going on outside, they stay at almost perfect temps that we are replicating in captivity as best we can. Nature's very cool! :)

Cool info. :) And good to know. I'm getting so stressed out with all this darn winter cold and dropping/fluctuating temps... I'm at the point now where I have to have a UTH on each side of a 10 gallon to keep temps, and had to order another stat to keep it stable. Right now that cool side is on a timer hooked up rheostat and I have to adjust it all the time!

Not to mention that the 4x2 cage I got to give better insulation from the cold just isn't working right, and I've decided to move Nagini into a tub for the winter until I get the darn thing working... GRR! If I could move all the snakes into the same room, I wouldn't have the troubles with too few thermostats... but two are in QT in different rooms. SIGH.

Ok, venting over. Any comments or suggestions on my temp woes?
