Carefresh

Never much crap-nin in the blood python area. So I thought I'd throw this out there.

I went with the girlfriend to a local petco the other day while christmas shopping. Just to look around. And ended up picking up a bag of the white carefresh ultra. Expensive stuff!! But ya know what...

I think I like the stuff for the blood. I filled the bottom of his tub with it. And he went to town burrowing in it. Has been since. Hidden under a layer of fluffy paper.

I've been able to eliminate his hides. As Kara from NERD has said her bloods are without hides. But I've replaced his hides with unprinted paper he hides under also. I really like setup now. As he seems to also.

Feeding day will be fun. He always eats in his tub on his newspaper. So we'll have to see what I can do.

Just wanted to say I like this stuff for bloods. And maybe hear some peoples feedback on it. Happy herping :)

Carefresh is good stuff but like you said it is expensive! I use it for my pet hamster and really like it. I know some others on here use it for their snakes. It's fine to use.

Yeah a tad pricey!! But I checked amazon. And you can get the big 50 liter bag for like 12 bucks!!! I got the medium sized bag. And it was like 16 at petco. Robbery!!! Haha

Anyways yeah Sula is digging that stuff hardcore!! He completely buries himself in it. Haha its cute.

I know expelled wastes will be fun to clean up after. And feeding days will be fun. Ill have to put something down for him to eat on. but so far I like the stuff!! Holds humidity better than the newspaper imo also. And more appealing.

If I decide its too much to deal with. He always has his unprinted paper to slither around on. Haha

Would it be worth buying carefresh over aspen? Just curious. I avoid carefresh because of the crap it does to little ratties noses and lungs. lol

I prefer the carefresh over aspen. Granted aspen is cheaper. But I bought it knowing bloods like to burrow.

And the thought of him burrowing in little wood shavings gives me the heebie jeebies. If that makes sense. Sharp little wood chips. Ehhh...

But I've never used aspen. So I can't really tell you one way or the other. All I can say is I like it a lot. Are you using aspen?

No, but I'm pretty sure they would like to hide in something fluffy. We have them on cyprus mulch, and the little one on eco-earth for the winter. The lower humidity has us bumping it up with different substrates. I actually prefer newspaper because its so easy to clean up.

Yeah I like newspaper. I switched to unprinted recently. Its just so simple!!

But with bloods in they're natural environment. They spend time under leaves and what not. So I gave the carefresh a try. Knowing hed burrow; something fluffy like you said was what I felt safe with.

It actually holds humidity better then newspaper. I got roughly a 5 to 10% increase with the same setup. By adding the stuff.
Do you just feed out of your tubs with the stuff your using now?

No. They get fed in the tub. Jade is currently being switched back to f/t, so she gets a napkin lol. I hate the idea of them eating substrate, it worries me sick, but we've had no problems with live. Now it's just getting her to eat the prekilled ones. And the little booger is on the coconut bark/eco-earth, I have no worries there as there are no large pieces to get jammed anywhere.

Now that I think about it, we may have everyone on the coconut bark now. I can't remember if chris gave her cyprus or coconut. We don't have much mulch left... hmm.. I should check that out sometime.

I tried using carefresh for my BPs for a while and I hated it. It would get pressed into a big clump around the sides of the tub and become useless. I spot clean religiously and it would still mold. Even a little spilled water and you have to clean the whole tub and use new carefresh. I was cleaning all the tubs and using fresh carefree every week almost, so I threw away the bag I had and went back to aspen and I couldn't be happier. I can't even imagine using it for something like a blood that requires more humidity than balls.

What happens with the little bit of spilled water? Does it disintegrate or something?
