    Scratched scales... please help
this is my first post because I need some help... i was picking up my ball python out of his cage tonight, but his tale wrap around a piece of plastic on the outside of the cage and it made a single line scratch through 6 or so scales on his belly. He isn't bleeding and doesn't react if I touch it...

what can i do in this situation? i can't really afford a vet visit so please don't suggest that.

    any help would be appreciated.

If he's not bleeding or doesn't seem to be in any pain, I would simply keep his bedding clean and keep an eye on it. Chances are that he'll shed those scales away in the next few months---that's what shedding's for!

And not to scold... but having some money on hand for a vet is just part of the responsibility of having a pet. It should have been figured into the budget when you purchased the animal. We always hope that nothing happens to our critters, but always plan ahead in case something does.

    Good luck!

ya it might just be the umbilicle cord aka belly button that they have at a young age. I made the same mistake and was worried the snake was burned or something and was informed that theres no worry.
    how old is the snake?

if it is perfectly in the middle of his belly, perfectly straight, it is his cute little belly button.
