Transporting

Hey all-

A bit of background. Arrowhead Reptile Rescue in Cincinatti, OH, has for adoption a few large snakes 6 ft +. So I think it's safe to say that when I get my rescue off the ground, I'll be approched by others that no longer want their larger snakes.

As most of you know it snows in Ohio and winters do of course get cold. I plan on transporting smaller reptiles (lizards, smaller snakes, turtles) in rubbermaid with holes sodered in it and heat packs wraped in towels.

How would I transport larger snakes? How many heat packs would I add to the rubbermaid? It seems like a lot.....I am just trying to get ideas/suggestions/tips on what to do.

I would imagine a big snake bag and a warm car would do the trick.

But I really can't say for sure. :D

I transport my 8ft boa by placing her in a kingsize pillowcase, using zipties to hold it closed and putting her in a 32qt sterilite tub with lid. Keeps her secure very easily.

just get one of those d/c to a/c converters and some flexwatt and a tub and your set much better than using heat packs in the car

I have used electric blankets with the converters to keep animals warm while transporting them. I think using flexwatt is an excellent idea as well. If you're using an insulated box or 'cooler' with a heat pack should work as well.

I would recommend that you try a couple ideas and test them out and see which works best to maintain temperatures in your situation.

Snake Bag or a Pillow Case will work fine.

Styrofoam shipping box...Or you can get a Styrofoam Cooler from Wal Mart.

1 heat pack should be fine in a small box, assuming you have the heater on in the car.
