Spread out snake

Hey,

I got my first BP on saturday - so far, I haven't noticed him use his two hides - he's been on top of the hides, close to the bulb I have that increases the ambient air.

I have a heat pad under on of the hides - but he hasn't utulized it yet - is this normal?

It's common for them to take up to a week or more to become comfortable with their new home. Including its hides. Instinct may be telling him some other animal could be in there or may "come home" soon to reclaim that gem of a cave. After awhile, he'll realize he's got it all to himself and make himself at home.

It MIGHT be too warm inside the hide for him to be comfortable. How are you controlling the heat of the UTH under the hide? And how are you measuring the temps?

I agree with JLC he/she is probably just getting used to their new environment and thats why they are not using the hides.
But just out of curiosity.
What are you temps and humidity?
How are you monitoring these temps.
Also do you have anything hooked up to the lamp or UTH to regulate these temps?

These are basic questions that everyone will probably ask you over and over....

I do have a Hydrometer - which without misting, my humidity stays at about 40 - so I mist it twice a day, and it goes up to 80, and neutralizes back to 40, eventually.

My temps at about 85 or so, ambient (Due to my heat lamp)

and the heat pad area is a little over 90, last time I checked. When I got home, today he looked like he was investigating the lid, etc.

Let him get used to the cage first, leave him alone for about a week or two. Dont worry about feeding until you feel hes totally adapted...
