Hallos color has gotten so much more vibrant since adding the crickets! Hes gained over a gram too. Trick and Traid are getting the hang of it too. Sorry for their dirty noses, its tough to keep them clean, their skin is so delicate there (or at least i think it is)

if you know how to pore sex using a jeweler's loupe you can sex a crested at as young as 3-4 months of age, otherwise it can take 6+ months to be able to identify males and 9-12+ months to be able to positively identify females.

how old is halo now? if he is at least 3 months you can send me some clost up shots of his cloacal area and i'll have a look but i can't promise i'll be able to tell anything. it's easier for me to sex them in person, but most people don't take the nice clear photos that you do. :)

I wouldn't relate the cricket feeding to color increase......as crested geckos(and most other geckos) grow they generally gain color, so there would be an 'enhancement' anyways...just as long as they are getting bigger ;)

Now, if you are feeding crickets gutloaded on a betacarotine rich food........you might see some difference in color ;)

that's true, although hallo might be getting excited about the crickets and coloring up because of that. kind of like a mood ring. hmm, if only i could wear a gecko on my finger that would show my mood... :P

i was feeding phoenix worms to my juvies tonight and noticing how many of them fired way up as they pounced and ate. stimulation is good. :)

and btw, if you want to scrub those noses feel free--the skin there is pretty tough, but food crust definitely isn't going to hurt them.

    thats for the info!

Emily, I was so scared to rub their noses in fear i would irritate their skin and cause them to drop their tails on me... i still dip their noses so i might as well leave it at this point. When I get home tonight I'll try taking pics of hallo and see what i can get.. do i need to raise "his" tail or anything like i would a beardie? hes about 4mos old (hatched in august)

you don't need to raise his tail--just get straight on shots of the cloacal and pre-anal area.
