Aurora has worms

We are trying to house train Aurora and she was in her kennel and you guessed it, she pooped. We went to clean it out and we found what looked like a thick piece of spaghetti in her stool. We took her outside to clean her cage and she began to vomit, only a little, but still, its vomiting. Upon closer inspection of the 'spaghetti' and doing a little digging online, we guess it to be roundworm. Aurora has been with us for only one week so we know this didn't happen with us and if she's passing it in her stool then she must have a BIG infestation.

We are going to call the vet ASAP in the morning (the moment they walk though the door, their phone will ring) to get her checked out and get treatment.

The online info we found did say that roundworm is transmittable to people. How at risk are we? We have been washing our hands all the time, especially after play time when we are touching her toys and she's play biting us. Is there any risk of us getting these worms by any of these activities?

Vet confirmed it was roundworm and gave her a dewormer pill. Unfortunatly, she vomited it back up in the car and now we have to give her another followed by another pill in two weeks.

On top of all this, she needs to be spayed and vaccinated since neither of those were done while she was with my cousin. :mad: I hate it when people delay needed medical care for their animals out of convenience. My uncle said my cousin was getting around to getting her vaccinated and spayed but then he had to move out to Arizona.

The darn dog is nearing 6 months old. He's had her for at least 4 of those 6 months and no vaccines have been given and she hasn't been spayed. Rah! If my cousin doesn't pay me back for all these vet bills I'm going to have to pay I'm keeping the dog! Heck, just in the past week that we've had her, I've spent around $20 in food (it was a small bag of dry and a few cans of wet until I get paid later today and can go get her a big bag of dry.), about $20 on a collar and leash, $25ish on toys, $15 in grooming supplies (she needs a bath!), and $90 in vet bills. Then comes the spay and vaccinations.

When she came to me, she had two dirty toys that looked like they needed to be thrown away, a bag of Kibbles and Bits, and a crate. Thats it! :mad::mad::mad::taz:

Well its great that your getting the dog taken care of- and shes beautiful- I would say keep her too!!... If he doesnt pay you back of course :D And no offence to your cuz, but it seems like your taking a bit better care of the dog then he was.. But once again- I do not mean to offend anyone.

My family has a history of getting dogs, keeping them for a bit, then getting rid of them because the dogs don't do what they want them to do. Take Nala for instance. She was a german shepard/lab mix. Beautiful dog and very friendly. She had a biting problem though and after about two months of having her, they got rid of her because she kept biting. She was a puppy! Of course she's going to bite. Its called training. We are working with Aurora on her obedience. We took her to Petsmart for the first time in her life and she loved it! Picked out a new chew bone and everything. She didn't bark or anything. Pulled a little bit, but hey, she was excited! :P

Awww, well thats good that your taking her out and socalizing her- and yea, an aunt and uncle of mine and my grandparents are the same way- only they still keep the dog, its just out of control.. Untill my mom or I come in and train it. lol.

Yea, our only problem is the fact that we live in an apartment. They have a limit on cats and dogs. Its either two cats or one dog. We already have the two cats and the apartment knows about them. They don't know about Aurora. If ever they are doing maintanence, we have to take her over to my moms house for a day or two but we are very worried about getting caught with her.

If we give her back to my mom to take care of for the six months, she will just turn Aurora over to the SPCA. My cousin can't come and get her for another 6 months, so we are kinda stuck, unless we give her over to the SPCA ourselves and I don't want that to happen. My cousin loves his dog but I'm worried about the outcome if the apartment manager finds out about her. I don't know what kind of fines we'd have to pay or if we'd get kicked out. :taz::taz::taz:
