Sideways Racks

What's your take on sideways racks?

Do they offer the proper temperature gradient?

Will a 32 quart Sterlite sideways with 4 inch Flexwatt belly heat have enough room to offer a "cool" side?

Would there be any special considerations when using a sideways rack?

They seem to be better for cost efficiency when you can combine the 32 quart sideways with some 15 quart narrows.

I have 2 large racks, and one is horizontal. I don't have any problems getting a proper thermal gradient using 4" flexwatt, and I like the fact that I can use a large tub or two small tubs. I run the tape all the way along the back of each shelf, about 1" from the back of the tub. This gives a hot spot of about 5x23 which is about 1/3 of the floor space. It works the same for the smaller tubs since they fit in deep instead of wide.

Yeah, you can get a good gradient. I used to use the sideways ones as well and never had a problem. I only switched because I can fit more racks on the wall with the long ones.
