15 qt racks from reptile basics
is there any real difference besides looks between the reptile basics stc410 narrow over the sideways version?
Re: 15 qt racks from reptile basics
tub size is the same...just changes how they fit into the rack. I have the 15qt narrow...tubs fit in lengthwise...
Re: 15 qt racks from reptile basics
ya i understand like they go in different. maybe i should of asked that differently. are there any benefits to go one way or the other? any advantages or disadvantages for each one? maybe that will help out. sorry.

Nope...no real advantages of disadvantages...floor space is the same...temperature gradient in the sideways tub might differ though...less room for change in ambient temps.
Re: 15 qt racks from reptile basics
I have the 15 qt that goes in sideways.....If I could do it over I would have gotten the narrow one.
My problem is that you have to almost slide the tub all the way out before you can remove the snake/hide/waterbowl....Also it is true what (BPOTM Winner!) Jason said, the thermal gradient is less effective in the wide as it is in the narrow..
Re: 15 qt racks from reptile basics
I have the 32 qt sideways rack and my room-mate has the 32 qt narrow rack (I assume the differences would be similiar scaled down) so we have seen first hand the differences between the two.
Narrow Rack
Takes up less wall space
Harder to pull drawers out (we often splash the water)
Less Room width wise with tub divider (harder to fit a hide, only applies to 32 qt)
Wide Rack
Takes up significanly more wall space
You can see your snakes better through the "window" (which I like)
Easier to change 1 32 qt into 2 15 qts
We have found that temperature issues are the same with both setups. The narrow racks don't have as much space covered with heat tape, but they have more insulation from the walls, while the wide racks have more floor space covered with heat tape but not as much insulation from the walls. It has been our experience that these qualities even out.
Hope this helps!
