    Score!!!
So, I've been trying to decide how I wanted to build an incubator. I thought I was going to do the one from Degei, but that cooler is HUGE!

So, I was headed to my nail appointment this morning, and got there a little early. There's a fish store a couple of doors down, so I wandered in and asked the guy if they had/sold/knew where to get styrofoam fish coolers.

He said they didn't sell any and the ones they had, they kept for shipping themselves. I told him why I was looking for one and he said "well, wait a second then", and came back with one from the back and just gave it to me!

The inner dimensions at the top are 2' x 1'4" - I didn't measure the bottom yet. Here it is - the start of my incubator for 3 clutches (fingers crossed).

Great find, you'll have to keep us updated on how to build it.

This is actually the thread where I got the idea for the fish cooler and I plan to use flexwatt.

Looks good Robin, post plenty pics when you get that bad boy up and running.

I may be wrong but I believe one of the most important things to consider when it comes to steady temps is the room the incubator is housed in. If the room swings a lot problems are ahead. You know

I can attest to that personally...

If your temps in the house swing back and forth dramatically, you are in for some sad results.

I've lost several clutches :tears: due to the massive heat waves that pass thru my area.

    Keep that in mind.

Heather - that is a good tip. I was thinking of putting mine in my bedroom, but it may be better in the basement. The basement may be cooler, but it stays a constant temp.

Nice! That is the exact size of the one I used last year. It fit 2 egg boxes fine. I am using slightly narrower boxes this year so that my 3 clutches can fit. I used Flexwatt on my Helix thermostat.
I would definately keep it in a room that is not going to spike in temperatures. If the temps go down, the Helix can compensate for that beautifully. But if temps spiked.. I would be scared of that possibility. I don't have to air-condition our house, living up here, but I am not sure how you southerners do it. Maybe keep the room air-conditioned to prevent it from going above a certain temperature?

Let's put it this way - we sleep with a comforter on the bed year round. ;)

Hehe, so do we, but our house is weird. Dirt floor basment + living in a valley = weird coolness. Unless the house is haunted?
At any rate, those styro boxes work great. Are you going to use soda bottles and fluorescent light grid over the flexwatt? This is what I did; if you want a pic, please let me know.
