    My poor dog :(
My little Zoey has gotten into something. Not sure what is causing this. This is the second allergic reaction she has had. Her Shar Pei really shows when her little face is so puffy.

First time it happened, at night, I wasn't able to catch it in time. This was last feb.

This time I caught it in time before she got too bad, and was able to give her benedryl. Who knows how much more swollen it will get before it kicks in. I stayed home tonight to monitor her breathing, so if anything happens, I can take her to the vet.

Just for reference this is what she normally looks like.

I can't for the life of me figure out what she is allergic to, besides chicken. She gets an upset tummy, but she hasn't had any chicken.

Oh and just for fun, My lab. Here he is when I first got him.

Here he is now:) With his funky ears, I hate it when they do that lol

Ah, poor baby! We went through the same thing with our dog a few months ago. One thing I can assure you though is that dogs rarely have a reaction that limits their breathing. I got this from the vet at the Humane society that I volunteer at. Dogs are not built that way so hopefully that relieves some of the stress of worrying. I know I had the same fear when Mollie was all swollen up.

Here's hoping the benadryl works quickly!

Thanks. My vet said the same thing, but just that it was possible. I love my puppies, so its like worrying about my kids. She does seem to be in a good mood, really playful. Keeping her calm is a chore lol.

Thanks, Shar peis definately live up to there rep for being very dominant dogs lol. She is pushy and thinks she is queen around here. So we have to be very firm but fair and let her know who is in charge. Shes a great dog though, she is also mixed with pitbull. She is the MOST VOCAL dog ever. Constantly talking, making chewbacca noises, its hillarious.

Well it seems as though the benedryl worked. Thank God.

The swelling went down considerably, and now her nose is just a little puffy. Poor thing, I really wish I knew what could have caused it. There is absolutely nothing that she could have gotten into, my house is baby proof and dog proof so I am completely baffled as to what keeps happening:confused:

    That's really good news Kristy!

Could it be an insect bite? I've seen dogs swell from spider bites and bee stings. . . .

Although insect stings are the most common cause of this reaction, it can literally happen in response to anything.

We have one patient who does it on Carpet Fresh powder, of all things!

If you can try, and keep a log of everything she's come in contact with in the hours before this. Hopefully, you'll find a pattern and be able to eliminate whatever it is that's triggering this.

Thanks, I realize that there is a slim chance I will ever figure it out. I will keep a record if I give her something new, or I notice something different.

Its amazing how much they can make us worry.

Oh and she is completely back to her self. As crazy as ever lol.
