went to get snake food ended up with a new pet

well today is snake feeding day and i went up to my local reptile shop and bought 2 hoppers 1 fuzzie and 1 pinkie to feed my snakes well i ended up with a new pet 1 hopper lol well i got home and i looked at the rats and one was just beautiful he had red eyes and had like a tanish fur soo i was like no hes way too cool to kill so i keeped him (and yea all they have is live food soo i just stunn them myself i learned sad but got to do what you got to do )

LOL thats how I ended up with my rats. It was the first time I had ever seen weanling rats and my daughter and I ended up holding them and then just couldn't feed them off. You should get your rat a friend!!

Me too!!! I now have two pet rats and a pet mouse that I couldn't feed off. The mouse, Campbell, survived a bad strike and got away. She was so good at avoiding my BP I just figured she deserved to live for some reason. She has become one of my favorite pets. I had no idea mice could be so friendly. Although, once I tried to put a couple of feeders in with her and she freaked out and attacked them. She stands on top of her house waving her arms at me until I take her out to play.

I also became way too attached to a couple of baby rats, Lester and Susie, to feed them off. I love these guys. They come out of their cage every night too. I don't know how much you know about rats but I was so surprised when I started to study them. They are very very smart (easily as smart as a dog or cat)!!! They will learn their names and come when called. You can teach them all sorts of tricks. And they are very social. Your little guy will bond with you and always want to be close to you if you spend time with him now.

I also agree with Pamela. Unless you have a LOT of time to spend with your rat he will get lonely without a playmate. Just a couple of things to keep in mind: If you have an aquarium keep an eye on you rats. They are experts at catching fish. Although they don't smell as bad as mice, you still need to clean their cage at the very least once a week (twice is better). Remember to wash your hands after you play with them if you are going to handle snakes. And, if you do get another rat make sure it's the same sex, unless you want a whole bunch of rats. They are quite prolific and females are always pregnant. And if you are thinking about raising them to feed to your snake take a minute to remember how you got this one. The babies are just so darn cute.

yea i kinda felt bad for her and im like nope im giveing the other rat to him . soo i gave her a second chance now i can pet her but shes too hype runs all over the rubber maid container i gave her ill deff post pics today

wow dident know that about rats i allways thought they were dirty ugly rats but i was WRONG lol and what are you feeding your rats im feeding my hopper (still dont have a name for her)
chesse popcorn (a dog treat ) and she loves it i also have cheeese in their raisens nuts and water bowl in their what kind of set up do you have can i see some pics thanks for all the info ima go look up on rats and see what kind of things i can find:salute:

Yep, that feed mix is tops. :) I also have pet rats and two new little weanling mice girls being raised up to breeding age that I probably will get way too attached to. The rats, especially, are the greatest pets; so smart and social. I love it when they chuff ('grind' their teeth together) in happiness when being held.
