How do you tell if she's pregnant?
We've had the female in with the male for a few weeks now. This week should be week 3-4 that she has been in with him. She is a bit chubbier than she was when we got her but I'm not sure if its a pregnant chub or if I just feed her well. :D

Frist time moms can be hard to tell as they typicaly have small litters. But they get to where they look like the ate a baseball and stretch alot.

Also, when they get so fat they start lounging about on their hindquarters, legs spread .That's usually about a day before they pop.

Rat or mouse?
With mice it is very obvious by week 2 they look like they swallow a small golf ball, when they get closer to giving birth they look like they gonna explode
With rat it is the same except it look like a baseball, like ED said sometime it is hard to tell with first time mom.

It is a mouse. We have noticed that she is pudgier in her belly area, especially when she gets up on her hind legs to investigate what we are putting in the cage. I'll take a picture tonight and get it uploaded on here this weekend.

just another point id take the male out unless u are looking for another litter cause he will mate her as soon as she has given birth and she will have it and the first litter will only three weeks
if u are looking another she will be fine withthe two cause the first will be just about weaned

What if your rats just started looking pregnant and then bam you have babies? :weirdface
Re: How do you tell if she's pregnant?
I do plan on breeding her again so the male stays. We have noticed she looks really fat when she sits down but when she stretches out, she looks completely normal. The male has stopped mating with her for at the very least, the past week if not two? We have limited internet usage right now so a picture of her isn't going to be possible.
