    what species is this?
Does anyone know what kind of turtle this is?
I found him a few months ago, in a lake in Frederickburg, Va, and assumed he was a snapping turtle, although I'm not completely sure... Ive been Keeping him in a tank filled with water and a few rest spots.
Ive looked up turtles, but can't seem to find a picture that is identical. He is still a baby, about the size of a quarter, I can take more pictures if it will help!

I believe that's a common musk turtle (Sternotherus odoratus). Many turtles look fairly different as hatchlings, so if you've been looking at adult pics only, that may throw your search off a bit.

I dont want to rain on your parade, but it is usually against the law to take native species from their habitat without a permit. Collecting wild animals isn't beneficial at all, especially if you happen to bring home one that is protected since you don't know what species it is... Just thought I should put that out there...
