Got second hide, red heat light, thermostat...vet tomorrow
So I got a 75w red bulb, a ReptiTemp 500R and put a hide on the cool side. I have a Hydrometer and a Thermometer but they are both wall mounted so I think it only reads the air temp. Do you think I need another thermometer with a probe down by the probe for the thermostat? I got more cables than the local hardware store. ha

return the 75 watt and get a 40 watt. 75 is too much and yes get a digital thermometer for the thermostat probe possibly two

I dont recall seeing a 40watt red bulb. But Ill check. If they have a 50w should I return it for that?

Hi,
You could alternatively keep the 75watt and get a rheostat to dim it down - that gives you a little more control over just relying on a set wattage.
And yes I think the digital thermometers/hydrometers with the probes are the way to go - it's easy to put the probes of those inside the hides to see what temperatures the snake is actually being exposed to while your adjusting your thermostat. :)

I just got a digital thermometer with a probe right next to the one for the thermostat. I am finally set ha

You could pick up a clamp lamp with dimmer for the bulb, the sell them at Petsmart now, or switch to a moonlight blue bulb in 40 watt. That's what I use, and they're much more 'soothing' and easier on the eyes. :)

I have a clamp lamp but I dont use the clamp ha! It just doesn't work with my set up, well for now. But do those blue bulbs do the same job with heat as the red ones? And can I get one of those at petco?
No petsmarts in Toledo... sooo gay
