receptive or defensive??

Hi all. I'm a breeding newbie and been cooling my snakes for about a month now. Yesterday I introduced a 1000 gr pastel male into the females (1500gr) cage. Male did not seems to be interested at all but the female reacted partially everting its pseudo-hemipenes and movig its tail somewhat fast from one side to the other. Does this means my female was receptive or defensive?. I've heard that sometimes regius show their scent glands when they feel treatened. Well my female, Dori, did basically the same thing and then mated with our male snake twice in two days. I think your female snake is giving your male snake the okay sign. :)

Thanks for all of these superfast replies!!! So the male probably just need more time with the girl to feel confortable...

I have a few females that are wagging like crazy lately.

I have an 800+ gram female spider that I placed in a tub with a male the other day while cleaning and she wagged like nobody's business.

After reading Jas's eloquent post I'll be sure to isolate my precocious girl and hide her away from the neighborhood boys. :colbert:

I'll just have to tell her to wait until next year.

Staci, you might want to hit a dollar store or any major dept store and grab a couple of these. Cheap as dirt and probably one of the handiest things I have around. I transport snakes in them, hold snakes while enclosure cleaning, add a few handfuls of bedding and they hold or transport live prey for the snakes - very handy, multi-purpose things with a decent clip down lid and a handle. :)

I have a female who does it. I've had her about 3 years now and she always wags her tail. And not a single male has bred with her. I've tried proven breeders, new breeders, and even loaned her out. She has never copulated. She seems to resist.
