    Black Night Light fixtures...
So I finally ordered a cage from AP, it's 36x24x15. I will have two light fixtures in there (one for day and one for night). Now I need to find a black light night bulb that will fit into one of the fixtures. I believe it takes 18 in bulbs, but I may be wrong.

Does anyone know where a can find something like this, that is specifically for reptiles(or at least safe for reptiles)?

Or... if anyone knows the length of the light bulbs for the fixtures from AP please let me know, since I'm not positive on the length.

Well, I'm not sure about the AP fixtures, but I ordered a 4x2 from RBI and bought two 18" florescent fixtures to install inside for viewing: one day and one night. I got my 18" blacklight bulbs from WalMart. They're just regular florescent blacklights, and I already have one over my Amel corn cage. Makes it look really freaky in there :)

If those aren't good for reptiles, PLEASE let me know...I couldn't find anything on the subject in searches...

Heh...him or me? :) I got mine from Reptile Basics Inc., and I believe he said he got his from AP: Animal Plastics.

I would have bought from them, since they're cheaper, but I didn't want to have to assemble the cage myself. RBI cages are all one piece construction.

Yep... Mine was bought at Animal Plastics. It hasn't been delivered yet, but the assembly is supposed to be pretty easy.

Hey as stated above are black lights okay for the animal? Because I have 3 black lights in my room (the ones that make things glow) and I have had them switched off ever since i got my BP out of fear of hurting him. Thanks if anybody can help.

i doubt it would physicaly hurt a BP, but if they can see in that light specturm it would probbly stress them out just like a normal bulb..... a good night time bulb is a red IR heat bulb, cuz BPs cant see into the red light specturm - atleast thats what ive been told, and i hope its true cuz ive had one on day n night on my BP since i got her 5 months ago lol

I know that excessive exposure to blacklights can ruin your eyesight. I only know this because I used to run four 24in blacklights in my room a few hours a night for quite a long time and my dad said I'd go blind, so I read up on it somewhere and it said too much of it's a bad thing.

I don't know how this would affect our snakes, but I would take precaution until you are 100% sure it's fine.
