Shedding Question

When I bought Sydney (we call him a boy even though we have no clue) back in September, the breeder said that he would only shed like 5 times a year. I picked him him up a few ago for some luvs and one on one time and discovered that he has gone into his third shed cycle in as many months. Is this normal... to shed once a month.

The funny thing was that a couple of nights ago I was taking pics of them to send to my sister and there had been no sign that he might be going into a shed cycle. Tonight I didn't even have to pick him up to see that the poor lil guy looked like pooh. I have upped the humidity, and covered up the top sceen about 2/3s the way. Both previous sheds went well and came off in one piece.

One other question... Tomorrow is feeding day, Should we just wait for Syd to shed and then feed him? Or can he eat tomorrow anyways? His eyes are real cloudy blue. My guess would be not to feed him tomorrow.

my snakes often shed once a month

Young, growing BP's can shed as often as once a month. Illness, injury, or major stress can also bring on additional sheds. But normal, every day growth is the most likely cause in your case. ;)

As for feeding him...it's up to you if you want to try or not. Some will readily eat in shed...others will not. Be prepared to deal with a refusal (which can be a pain in the butt if you're feeding live). Or just wait until he finishes shedding. It won't hurt him to miss a meal.

My husband accidently fed him last time while he was in shed cycle, and he said that he didn't even bat an eye and snatched it up as fast as usual. I work a lot, sometimes 70 hours a week so my hubby does the feeding most weeks to keep them on schedule, but he doesn't have a clue for the most part. :P

Well, let's put it this way. It can't hurt either way. If your snake eats while in shed...'tis fine. If he skips a meal while in shed....'tis fine, too. ;)
