How well do our snakes know us?

We try to know our snakes as well as we can. But how well do they know us? They recognize us by smell, how we handle them, the vibrations of our voices, etc. Is that right? I've been thinking even more deeply about how well they know us.

If our BP is wrapped around my arm, can't he feel my pulse rate and blood pressure? If he's wrapped around my neck, wouldn't he also feel my respiration rate? Can't he also pick up on hormone or chemical emissions through his Jacobsons Organ? Like the idea that some animals/insects can "smell" fear. Could he know my mood by my smell? And as he got to know me, he might detect subtle changes in my mood. Fear, stress, anxiety, calm, relaxation, happiness, excitement, sadness, etc.

My mood (based on blood pressure, heart and respiration rates, hormone and chemical activity, maybe even my metabolism - rate of CO2 emission) might, in turn, affect the snake's mood - creating symbiotic biofeedback.

Just wondering if I'm nuts or if anyone else out there can envision this. Maybe it would help us meet in the middle on the "Does your snake love you?" thread. Not love, but something else - an intimate knowledge with corresponding attraction and interaction.

What do you all think?

I think they they become used to the environment of being handled by humans and lose their fear of it.

I really don't think they can tell us apart though. Many ppl think that their bp knows them because it acts more comfortable with them... but a snake will be more comfortable with someone who is used to handling them and makes them feel more secure... ie. you.

I not much of a touchy feely guy :) I love my snakes but I really don't think they feel the same way. Thankfully I keep them in cages so they won't leave me... hows that for controlling!!

I think no.

I don't think my snakes care who puts their hand in their encloures...just as long as they are fed.

Again...I ask you...If your snake recognizes you then why would he be gone if you left his enclosure open.

I know there are a rare few that believe that he would just look for your pillow and curl up but nah ah.

and....

why would he bite you if he was in shed...or hungry?

It seems to me that snake people are just heartless, uncaring people, incapable of love, and incapable of realizing that other creatures may also have emotions. Snake people are just cruel jerks, that's all.

Seriously though, you're gonna have to fight PRETTY darn hard to convince most of the people here that snakes think or feel any sort of emotion other than hunger. (If that could even be called an emotion.) I'm in the same boat as you, Melissa. I don't care if they'd leave me if given the chance. I feel like there's gotta be more to the whole deal. I'm not satisfied with being a heat rock in my snake's eyes. -lol-

None of my snakes care about me.....................they just want heat, water, rats, and hides. then they try to escape, so i don't what they want

Well the hides are always ... more snug? in someone else's tub. So of course they're going to try to leave.

Lol...I never once said that! :) I have hopped out of the window more times than I can remember...however...I came back.

If my bp's hopped (lol) out the window...I could almost guarentee they would never return!

But maybe...just maybe...they would SMELL :rolleyes: their way back home!
