My cat had Urinary Track Problems
    Wow.

I never knew this was so common in male cats.

We have been to the vet 3 times since last Thursday dealing with this.

They tried a laxative because we didnt know it was urinary at first and nothing happened. Then we realized that he wasnt peeing.

We took him back on Sunday and they gave us a few gelcaps to help him go but it didnt work.

Saturday night he was going a bit but it looked like it wasnt him and more like the bladder was too full and was leaking out onto the floor.

We took him today and they told us about the crystals that build up in male cats and cause blockage in the penis.

It was a whopping 600.00 for him to stay overnight and get some stuff done like a catheter, iv, xray, anesthesia, blood, and urine tests. Some other stuff too.

The urine didnt have any blood and they just told me the blood came back normal.

We went to the $ machine after they told us the price and he was knocked out on the table and the doc showed me the crystal substance that was causing all this.

We are probably picking him up in the morning and he is going ot have to go on this urinary care food.

I never even heard about this and wish i knew about this type of food 2.5 years ago.

    Hopefully he will be cool.

Some of you may of seen his pics that i posted in the past.

    Scary!
I just got a little boy kitten! I've been feeding him "Truly Friends" (from Sobeys), and it says it "helps maintain urinary tract health".
I really hope my kitty don't get that. :please:
He has enough problems as it is... :tears:

Good luck with your little guy!

Yup, it can happen a lot...and the sucky thing is that the ones that do it frequently tend to have continued problems. I'm really really greatful that out of my six boys, we've yet to have a problem in the 3-5 years they've lived with me.

Now that you know what to look for, you can be alert to future problems...a blocked tom is a serious emergency and should be seen immediately. The good thing is that with a good diet (Science Diet c/d is the most commonly used one) you can maintain his urine at a pH that will form much fewer crystals.

I'm glad he's getting taken care of! All of my boys are crossing their paws in sympathy, and wishing him a speedy recovery.

Ya well, the vet said that we should be happy we brought him in this soon into it because a high % of people wait till the last minute.
