Who determines prices?...
I was just wondering, when new morphs are discovered how is it decided how much they're worth (e.g.- the banana ball python i think i saw was $75,000) who decides that it's worth that much and when does it drop in price? when there are more produced? thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on the subject.
Re: Who determines prices?...
It's a free market, and anyone can set any animal at any price.
Re: Who determines prices?...
just like any business, the people controlling the product are going to sell that product for as much as people are willing to pay. you may not be willing to buy a $75,000 snake but someone else out there is!

Yea that's true...but with pastels for example, were they more expensive a couple years ago than they are now, because i've seen pastels for $100
Re: Who determines prices?...
there are a lot more around so the value has dropped
Re: Who determines prices?...
supply and demand. pastels have to be about the most common morph now. supply has been continually catching up with demand.
Re: Who determines prices?...
The fact is, you can set any price on any of your snakes you like. Even if it's a "normal", you can put $5000.oo on it, and if someone walks up and wants to buy it, that's all good.
When it's a previously unknown morph with unknown potential, you bet that the owner will charge through the nose, and get it. I'm all for charging whatever you like on your snakes. If someone is willing to pay it, then go for it. If no one is willing to pay $5K for a normal, then you'll either lower the price, or keep the snake.
I think price should be set by the owner with regards to what that particular animal is worth to the currant owner. Some of us want more pastel females for breeding projects. That means we value a pastel female a lot more than someone that has no pastel projects. So I might pay more for a pastel female than someone else, but as long as enough people like me exist, the pastel female price will stay high. If there are not many people like me, the pastel female price will drop.
I hope this helps some. I haven't had enough wake-time yet.

Keep in mind that pastel are a co-dom...every clutch (should) have 1/2 pastels 1/2 normals.....so pretty much all co-doms will come down in price due to their ease of creation....

I remember even last year the het red axanthic was $$$$ and this year I'm seeing them for as low as 250. Talk about a shocker.
