Update on W/C and questions
I don't know if any of you remember our wild caught girl, just wanted to give a quick update and some questions.
She started eating for us a few months after we brought her home. She is just pounding these rats! We give her a weanling (maybe 2) every Saturday, but all week she is on the hunt. We threw her a 3 week old middle of last week just as a test and she didn't even let it hit the floor, took it in midair. She has become our best feeder now, putting weight on at a good rate, I believe she is 1486 as of 2 weeks ago empty. (When she started eating for us she was 1380's I believe)
Here's the question, can her willingness to eat anytime stem from the fact she is wild caught and will take food because of the opportunity? I'm pretty sure that's why she never hesitates to eat now, but dang, every time we check on her she comes right out expecting a rat to come her way! She is seriously acting like she hasn't eaten in years. Just always waiting for that rat.
Anyone else experience anything remotely close or have any thoughts on her recent behavior? Will it slow down as we get into the winter months? Any comments are greatly appreciated!
Re: Update on W/C and questions
My personal experience is limited to two W/C adult females, Connie, so I'll only comment on them.
Saoirse once she started eating did eat very, very well. She also seemed to gain weight very efficiently (more weight gain off the same prey as other females her size...this just may be her thing or a wild thing or a going hungry so long thing...who really knows). Saoirse has fasted however both winters. We have just started her this fall on ASF's hoping to keep this years fast at bay. I'll let you know how that goes. Usually she's fasting by now but our fall weather was very delayed this year so I'm not sure how it will go.
Danu we only just got earlier this summer. We have her eating now but she's such a shy hunter it's hard to tell how she will go. If anything is even the littlest bit "off", she refuses to eat. She also won't eat unless left completely alone with a prey so we are just going very slow with her for now. It's very early days with her yet.
I'm glad to hear your WC adult is feeding already and feeding so aggressively. :)
Re: Update on W/C and questions
I'm just guessing that her response will slow down in the winter. I just don't want her going back off feed when we just got her to eat this summer. I guess we can only wait.
