    Size of tubs in incubator?
    Hello,

I was just wondering what size tubs everyone uses in their incubators. I want something just big enough so I can maximize space and fit more clutches per level.

    Thanks!

Depends on how many eggs you get. I use either the 6 qt or 12 qt tubs. But i havent had a clutch over 7 eggs.

12 quart...If the clutch won't fit - I split the clutch up and use two 12 quarts...

Part of the decision on which tub to use also stems from what substrate you decide to use. In my case I do the substrateless method so my tubs can be are small (6QT where the sides are only 5" or so).

If you are using vermiculite then it pays to have deeper substrate which holds moisture/water longer/better

Also the more mass you have the better the temp stabilization. (I believe Adam that plans to use 5 Gal buckets in the coming years so he has lots of substrate (ie. mass) and his temps and humidity stay rock steady)

    Hope this helps

I'll have to go back and review my VPI DVD but I think I remember seeing Dave and Tracy using big buckets like that. Course they have a bloody huge walk-in incubator LOL. Hmmmm I have a large closet in the snake room that's just sitting there doing not a lot of anything. ;)
