I hate when the power goes off
Well last night our power went out and it is still off. It's pretty warm in our building and using some heat packs I kept the snakes warm but my stock of frozen feeders is no longer frozen. At least there weren't that many left but still sucks anyways. Anybody else have this happen?

We haven't yet. But now that it is getting cold, I am so paranoid about that. We live in a one story house with no basement (only a crawl space on part of it), in a rural area. So when the electricity goes out, our house gets very cold inside. I fear waking up after it has already gotten too cold, wondering, "How long has the electricity been off already?" Then turning on the light, and the scare of what the temperatures are in the snakes' tanks.

So, I feel for you! Hang in there. Do you happen to have a gas oven? If so, can you move some snakes to the kitchen and turn on the gas stove to heat up the room? Call Home Depot or Lowe's and see if they have any battery powered generators? Not sure what else you can do, short of taking them to a friend's house who has electricity or taking them out and putting them on your body! Can a local shelter or pet store offer any advice?

    Good luck!

I had the same thing happen a couple weeks ago. Wouldn't have been a big deal but I did have eggs in the incubator. Not just any eggs, this was my dream clutch het lav to het lav!!! I went to fire up the generator and it was out of gas (bummer) off I ran to the gas station only to find the power back on when I returned. Geeezzzes that stresssed me out big time.

I have been lucky here so far but I have several back up plans in case it does go out.

mine went off today for a few hours. not as bad as when those storms came through a few months ago though. but it was nice out today. and the power was like, "hey, i'll just go out so your snake's temps are off. ha ha ha."

yeah? well, not funny electricity. not funny at all!

Get some gas for that generator Larry! I have my snake rooms and the incubators outlets on a seperate board so I can plug the generator into it and power them up! Can't go without heat in artic tundra of Nebraska.

Reviving this thread. We had the power go off for a little over 3 hours this morning. The temps in the snakes' tanks dropped to the high 70's within 45 minutes. So we took turns holding the snakes in our shirts and keeping them warm. My husband stoked up the wood stove. Now the power's back on and all is well. But it had me worried for a bit.
