Babies with varying weights..

All of my '07 hatchlings weighed roughly the same upon hatchling. It is strange, but have you noticed that some grow faster than others? I feed them all on the same day, on almost identical prey items. I have found that yes, the girls tend to grow faster.. I have variations from 70g to 120g, on snakes that were hatched in August
Here's another thing. I guess that the ones that weigh less, were in fact the ones that started feeding later than the others.
la laid 4 eggs that were on the larger side. Ginger's 8 eggs were normally sized from what pictures I have seen of eggs. Bela's were lozenge-shaped. Well, Bela's hatched a week or so after Gin's did.. and Bela's babies are larger! By at least 10 grams or so.. just a thing I noticed. Anyone else notice this? Bela was on the smaller side (1800g) when bred, while Gin exceeded 2000g.

I sometimes think its a genetic thing :P.Now be serious we all love it when our girls put on a pound or two :8::8:(talking about snakes here :rolleyes:)

It's kind of hard to compare all of those things when there's so many varied factors going on. Try comparing snakes from the same clutch who have eaten the same amount of meals. Make sure they're empty when weighed.

I went over the numbers and compared Ginger's 8 babies. They range from 74 to 114 grams; wow :) To be honest, the lighter ones were the last to start eating.. so that might explain it a bit logically. I am glad they are all eating good now; that was one of my breeding fears, that I would have a nonfeeder.

Could chalk some of it up to different metabolism rates, how active an individual snake is...etc etc. You know how there are some people who can eat anything and everything and never gain a pound!
