Tired of my balls (lol)

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but it is sort of related to ball pythons.

I've had my ball pythons for over three years(sadly, never been bit), and I would like some suggestions for what snake I should get next. (BPs got me addicted to snakes, I bought them because I was afraid, now I love snakes. :P )

New snake has to be manageable on my own. BTW, what exactly is considered to be managealbe by one person? Less than 8 or 10 feet? Anyway, I don't want something >10 feet.

Preferably not aggressive and may be handled by children (with supervision of course).

Something stocky and heavy looking like a ball python would be nice.

I have a room, so space won't be a problem.

My vote would be for a Red Tail Boa. :gj:

How about a Dumeril's boa? They get "about" 3' bigger than a adult Ball python and are very docile.

I moved this to the General Herp forum for ya, since it's not really about ball pythons...just uses them as a jumping off point to discuss other snake species.

That being said...if you want something really different...maybe look into Womas. :D

I Say Nicaragua Boa

Not to be negative, and hopefully its not what it sounds like...but if you are "tired" of your ball pythons should you really be adding another snake? What happens when you have half a dozen reptiles that you are "tired" of? Most often this is where neglect sets in accompanied by poor husbandry. That said if your just looking to add something different (and can keep that spark for your balls), there are lots of other python species out there. You might look at what type of conditions you can consistently provide and how much space you can devote. Knowing these things ahead of time will ensure that whatever you choose lives a long healthy life.

i'd say the red tail! great snakes! pretty tame and beautiful!

I won't really start neglecting them or anything, they just seem not that..exciting anymore after a few years, I still like them and will continue to keep and care for them, thank you for your concern though. I also have a room where I keep my Scorps/Ts and current ball pythons, so space is not much of a problem like I said. And no, you don't sound negative at all.


I'm leaning now towards red tail boa. Time to research more, thread can be closed now if you mods want to. Thank you for your suggestions people, very helpful. :D
