    Popping My BP
Today I popped my BP for the first time, and I think it's a female. (Her tail slopes off pretty sharply after the cloaca, so I had suspected she was female.) My question is, how far do you have to push open the vent before the [hypothetical] hemipenes emerge? What should I look for?

I was following this site and I have also watched someone pop a female snake before. Just want to be sure. The site says sometimes the scent glands will be everted on a female, but all I saw was some reddish fleshy stuff, and I couldn't really tell if it was the scent glands.

    reddish fleshy stuff = male
I succesfuly popped my bp 2 days ago after trying for some time. It was a male. It takes practice... you can't be sure the first time unless the hemipenes come out... sometimes snakes can keep 'em in. I found that kind of massaging the area near the cloaca get the snake ready and then putting pressure on the top and bottom and slowly going to the opening... kinda put some pressure at the end.. and hopefully ta-da!

But don't trust me on this, and it's always better to get a vet OR a pro to do it.
