    Look who I got :)
I got my BP today at the St. Jacobs reptile expo :) I'm so happy. He's 4-5 months old, they believe he's a male however not 100% sure.(hope hes a female) He was feeding on f/t fuzzy rats. He's been doing quite a bit of exploring and been very active. He hasn't been in either of his hides yet, he has been sitting on top of them though. He has been what appears to be climbing the walls of the terrarium, wondering if he is trying to get out or if hes just exploring? (It's a sliding lid with locks so it's safe) I do have a probe exposed to measure the air temperature is there any risk of him trying to eat this? I uploaded 3 pictures of him in his new home to the photo gallery. He is currently in coconut fiber, I know I should be using paper towel however I did check him to see if he has mites/anything else noticeable and he looks very good. Is it alright if my coconut fiber is dry provided I can manage the humidity good? The lady I bought him from said that he should eat 3-4 days after moving however I'm not so sure I want to try feeding him that early, any suggestions when I should at least offer? (he was fed 2 days ago) I will be feeding in a separate container. Pictures are unfortunately low quality they are in the photo gallery here: http://www.ball-pythons.net/gallery/...=3&userid=6599

    Thanks, Perry.

    Hi Perry,:)

    He looks very cute.:)

I would however take all that tape out of the tank before an accident happens and it ends up wrapped around him.

Have a little search around for alternatives ( I think the very low stick blue painters tape was mentioned as safe by one of our members) to see which ones would suit you best.

Thanks for the info on the tape, it doesn't seem to become detatched from the glass, however I will look around(I think I have some blue painters tape), I'm just afraid he will get tangled in the wires or bite them. He doesn't seem to care for his hide yet preferring the dark corner of the terrarium. He did poke his head in but he came right back out. I belive he had a pee as he was curled up in the corner when I went to walk my dog and when I came back he was active and moving and there was a wet spot where his cloaca was so I took out the area and replaced it with some more fiber from the other end of the tank and he seems to be curled back up there. I did put my hand in flat and he crawled right over on top of it but I didn't pick him up. I also stroked his back and he didn't seem to care but if I got too close to his tail he jerked it away. That's all the touching I'll be doing for a few days atleast(besides what is required for general maintenance). I figure I'll offer a f/t fuzzy rat on Thursday night as I don't see any harm in trying.

Well, my boy spent last night in his cool hide with his head sticking out(He was there when I went to bed, woke up at 3, woke up at 5, and woke up at 7). This morning when I was changing his water/looking for poop/pee etc. I moved a probe under my cool hide and and now it's reading 77F. :O The air around his hide is reading 82.2, I have a heatlamp near the hide but not directly over it, any suggestions on how to bump the cool hide temp. up without affecting the air temp too much? I don't want to put another UTH under this side as well as I'm not sure how much the breaker can take. Other then that, when I got home now from my first period class my little boy is stretched out and he looks pretty happy, I don't know if it's just from his light cycle being messed up yesterday or if he's just expoloring but he seemed to be sleeping all last night and he seems to be very active in the day.

How many hides does he have?

I also agree with Derek - tape is not good inside the tank. It may not be loose now, but it will get loose at some point, and it's not pretty when the snakes get stuck on it.

    Congrats on your new addition!

Thanks, and he has 2 identical clay hides he seems to fit perfectly, he has one above the UTH and the temp. under that one is 94F I moved the lamp almost directly above the cool hide and its temp is 77.5F now but still climbing however the air around it shot up to 86 and the humidity dropped down to 58% so I figure I'll move it back a small bit. I think(/hope) the elec. tape should deal for another day or two until I pick up some blue painters tape however I will be monitoring it frequently. I have to head out again until 9 so hopefully everything stays good, I'll post again with any new concerns/update when I get home. Thanks.

Well, I got home his humidity was 55% so I misted it back up, the cool side hide was 78F and the air was 84F. He was however in his cool side hide again(unfortunatly) with his head sticking out. Hopefully he's not deciding the cool hide is more safe(I don't think so because there both the same) and hopefully he doesn't get an RI or anything, I really need advice on getting the cool hide up in temp.
