I use a layer of blank newsprint under a thumbnail depth of aspen... works pretty well so far.

I have been using DCL on all my snakes for many years and love it. I put down a layer of news paper and then one sheet of the cage liner...

I'm trying paper again as I go through to much aspen when using it for the snakes and rodents. I'm also hoping it will allow for slightly increased humidity. My frustration is that the snakes try to go under it and it makes the tub look a mess! Its not so bad with larger paper such as news print, but I can get old unused computer paper (green bar) and I have to use a few sheets of it to cover the bottom of my tubs...when they start moving that around it really looks bad. But I guess what can you do, the snakes will make their homes...their own.
