Fat Rats...?

This is an interesting read, especially for boa enthusiasts. There is a lot of speculation out there at the moment as it seems some boas---who have been fed rats from certain breeders---are having explosive poos, are shedding their colors, and getting sick... there have even been some deaths.

Some think it is due to rats eating bad dog food from China. Others think it may be connected to the fat content in the rats.

All in all... it pays to know your supplier.

holy smokes!! that is a FAT rat. I dont own anything that eats rats currently but i sure has heck wouldnt feed something of that size! thats inexcusable totally over weight to the point of being unhealthy, i cant believe it is considered a breed. thank you for posting this!!! it just might save a few animals!!

That is just plain gross! No animal should be bred or fed to the point of becoming that obese, for it's own good as well as making it a proper feeder. We are what we eat applies to snakes I would think as much as to any living creature and feeding your snake a rat that is such a high percentage fat, just seems to me to be a very poor idea.

He might be being optomistic in saying it's not a problem that affects pythons as well if this old story is anything to go by.

Oh my lord.. that poor obese rat. Wow.. that is unspeakable! I am glad that I breed my own feeders and control what they put into their bodies.. yikes.

There are many theories going around as to why this happens... interesting.
