Caramel albino or glow X Axanthic?
Has it been done? What does it look like?

Not done yet, unless it is in hiding.

T+ X Axanthic... Would that produce a snake with only red/brown markings, instead of pure white? That might actually be REALLY interesting to see.

Caramel Glow Axanthic would be True Ghost Caramel...

I don't think that has been done yet.. Triple Recessives are a hard hit.

We haven't even seen a "True Ghost" yet, have we? At least ~I~ haven't. My feelings will be hurt if someone has pics they haven't shared yet. :P

Caramels are one of the morphs I plan to do long-term projects with, when I can finally begin breeding. I think such a triple recessive would be a worthy goal! :D

Keep an eye on the Sutherlands collection for some "Caramel Snow" examples in the next year. I think Collette is having a hard time hitting the odds since none of us has seen this yet.

Judy : I agree that we have a ton of stuff to do with the Caramel gene. My main worry is that we are seeing the kinking trait carry over into the designer projects as well. I was hoping that the outcrossing would correct this but it hasn't. We must be seeing an actual genetic kink trait. Perhaps if we only bred Het. to Het. for the designer projects we could keep the kinks at bay but I think the odds will be too difficult for most people to try to do it this way.

    LATER!

I have heard that the True Ghost has been produced, but no one wants to post pics....

As for the Caramel Snow, that would be sooo awesome. I'm ready for that!!

Sean, I agree with the concern about kinking. I only have hets due to this, but even then, I have heard of people having problems with that as well...

We just have to hope... :please:

    het to het = 1/64

My bet is not too many triple hets will be produced. I would go double homo to double homo with one of the same traits matching up and make some Homo animals that are also double hets. That just blows my mind thinking about it.

Very interesting, I would think such a neat Double Homo would be shared for all of us to appreciate!

    Here's a tid bit of information from my limited experience with this project;

We bred our male VPI Axanthic this year to an older long term captive female (to make hets), she produced 7 eggs and to our surprise hatched 0.1.2 Hypo and 0.1 Het-Axanthic 66% possible Het-Hypo, 3 eggs that looked viable perished after 3 weeks, one of the unsexed was severely kinked and the other had a major underbite malformation. Incubation was not a factor as other clutches were produced with 100% hatch rate.

I was told by a reliable source that ''True Ghost'' might be one of those projects in which both the Hypo and Axanthic combinations were lethal and this could be the cause of the malformation of those two Hypos !?!

Might be plausible BUT then why would the perfect female Hypo het-Axanthic from this clutch be perfect and a ravenous feeder to boot?

If this is indeed a lethal combination, it would be nice for the ball python community to share such information, I am hoping my situation was pure bad luck and a ''True Ghost'' can be made :)
