Angelfish emergency - need help!
I've already posted on an Angelfish forum that I go to occasionally, but if anyone has any experience with keeping freshwater angels, I have a fish emergency. I wont type it all out here, since I'm not *too* expectant of replies. But if anyone can help, please please please let me know, and I'll explain the situation.
Thanks,
Haylee

I'm no expert, but I do have 2 adults in my tank now.

I'll do one better.

That's the male, and I *know* he's the male because they've spawned several times before. This just happened over night since I check them each night before bed. He's acting normal and eating fine, just chillin' with his mate, but he's bloated.
The nitrites and trates are practically nonexistent, there's ZERO ammonia, and the salt and PH levels are right about where they should be.
I'm going to try giving him peas before I sign off, and he was treated with Malachite Green for internal parasites in a hospital tank, then later put back in so I could treat everyone with a general bloat/fungus medicine just in case.
The heater hasnt clicked on yet, but other than that, everything's perfect. I dont know what to do. The only thing I havent yet done is epsom salts, which I'll be buying tomorrow morning.
Here's the setup so you get an idea:

If it is for sure the male I think you hit it with bloat. Just keep up with the treatments you're doing, hope he does okay. Good luck!
Re: Angelfish emergency - need help!
hes got hemophelic septomia (excuse the bad spelling, i only know how to pronounce it) there is a pouder medication that cures it that can be purchased at any fish store. What happens is the organs in his body will begin to swell and put pressure on other organs and other parts of his body.... its not deadly if its treated quickly.... also how much do u feed him???
Re: Angelfish emergency - need help!
off the top of my head i cant think of the name of the medication, its made by API. Ill get the definite name of the medication for you tomorrow and ill pm u.
Re: Angelfish emergency - need help!
I treated them with a powdered medication for bloat by Mardel. The petstore I went to last night didnt really have a very broad selection. I usually buy everything Jungle brand, but they had maybe 2 products that were by Jungle. I was very disappointed, so I just made due.
But anyway, if that's what this really is, he was treated the first day he showed symptoms, so keep your fingers crossed.
I dont feed them much. You're "supposed" to feed angels 2x a day, but they get 1 pinch of food in the evening. With fish, I follow this general rule: "underfed, or dead".

What's with the little goldfish? Is it a good idea to have him in there with your Angels?
Re: Angelfish emergency - need help!
It's not a goldfish, it's a gold molly. They're the most docile things ever. She was in there with a male but the male passed away suddenly and seemingly without reason some time ago. They all get along fine. She stays on the bottom and cleans up with the catfish. The male angel actually likes her. She hides behind him all the time, and he doesnt care.
