Re: alternatives to tanks..
I've never kept a beardie, but I've done some reading up on them. I also know a couple people that have them. For their adults, I have a friend who's using a huge tub: http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....d=4&op=snipoff
(That link is a discription of the tub... if you click the link at the bottom, it'll show you a pic of the tub).
They just leave the top off and have a couple heat lamps on stands hanging over the enclosure (there aren't many decorations in there, beyond hides, because they don't want them climbing on anything to get out).
You could probably put mesh over the top if you were really worried about them escaping, or wanted to spruce it up a bit.
Just an idea....
Re: alternatives to tanks..
thank you for the idea.. we are thinking a bit more on the *display* side too though :P ((brat)) lol that and we have little kids, so we need something on a stand if it cant fit on our desk
Re: alternatives to tanks..
lol... well, what about something like this: http://reptilebasics.com/Mini-Cage-p-16232.html
A little pricey, but stackable---if you want each of them to have their own cage---with belly heat, and you could use the built in flourescent light fixture for their UV.
Black goes with everything :D
Re: alternatives to tanks..
holy smokes, im almost nervous to see how much something equivilent to 50gal would be eeek.. better look so i know lol, those are really nice!
Re: alternatives to tanks..
anyone know dimentions of a 50-60gal tank lol.. is the 2x4 big enough? doesnt look like they offer anything bigger.
Re: alternatives to tanks..
Try animalplastics.com too, they have some really good prices.
You could also build one, but working with the wood, heating and lights would be a pain in the butt.
Re: alternatives to tanks..
I think the bigger ones were $100 more... but then you'd only have to get one.
They're very nice cages and Rich is really cool... I'm sure he'd work something out with you---payment plan wise---if you're interested. He's very good about answering email too!
Re: alternatives to tanks..
I thought you couldnt house two together permenently? (supposedly both are girls, craig invited me back to sex them in two weeks he could have a better look with age)
thank you for the suggestion, hehe but i dont want to make my own haha ((lazy))
**just emailed the person you suggested lady**
Re: alternatives to tanks..
All I know is that a 50gal is 4' long and 18" wide, since that's what I kept my beardie in. But, since the most important thing for those guys, much like Blueys, is floor space, I think a 2' by 3' wouldn't be TOO bad. :)
EDIT: Just saw all the followup posts...you guys are fast :) As far as I know it's fine to house them together as long as each lizard has it's own retreat/territory.
