Kenyan Sand Boas

Hey,
Today I saw and held a Kenyan Sand Boa, let me tell you this.. I fell in love, the breeder I'm working for can get them for me for an amazing price, perhaps even 3. Would I be able to keep them in the same enclosure in say a 32 qt tub?

are we saying several ksb's? or asking if a 32 qt would be good? I have mine in a small aquarium and it is fine. They dont grow very big and all the do is burrow.

3 would be the max.

It's not a good idea to keep sand boas together in the same cage.. this topic comes up a lot (came up just a little while ago in the ball python forum)

A baby sand boa only needs a shoebox sized enclosure.. adult males only need something the size of a 10g tank, and females 20g.

i honestly dont have any experience on multiple sand boa's but its usually never a good idea to house more than one in a cage

Male & Female can be housed together in a minimum 20 gallon long.

Several breeders told me this.

See, I've heard that too... but it makes me wonder. Don't the reasonings behind not keeping other snakes together apply to Sand Boas too?


I mean, you keep a male and female together... they're more than likely going to breed, maybe before she's ready. Health risk to her. Health risk to the eggs.

One could get sick... then both will get sick.

They will both compete for the best hot and cool areas.


Why are sand boas considered outside of these concerns? It bothers me.

im with you ladywhipple! Most likely you can spend the same amount of money buying 3, 7 or 8qt tubs with one piece of heat tape and a thermostat as you can buying one 32qt without risking sickness or worse, death. Yes a lot of people keep multiple snakes together and they are doing fine, but why risk it?

Yeah.. the same risks apply as to other snake species. It is just better to keep them individually.

I held a Rosy Boa and had the same reaction. Have you ever held a Rosy? How would you compare them?

I am learning more about the KSB's and am intrigued. I am not sure which one I want now. I hope I find both at the Chantilly NARBC so I can compare in person.
