How to Place Males and Females Together.

this may be easy to answer but i am not sure how to go about this.

do i place the female inside the male's tub? or do i place the male in the female's tub? does it matter or is there some kind of breeding strategy?

and another question. when placing males and females together should i take out both hides? i know some breeders dont put hides in their tubs but for the ones that do, what do you do?

Combining advice from various persons-- place them together right after the female sheds on a cool autumn evening during a violent thunderstorm. :D (romantic)

I place the male into the female's bin. I don't use hides in an enclosed rack, but if there were one, I would remove it, simply because my male is a bit on the small side, and my largest female is VERY big, and I don't want him squooshed inside the hide with her on top. lol
If that isn't an issue, then I would leave hides in, if there were room for 2 of them plus the 2 snakes.
Being smaller, my male is living in a smaller bin, so it only makes sense to transfer him into the larger bin rather than vice versa.

You should do whatever works ... many people put males in the females enclosure, but if you are doing that and they aren't breeding, try putting the female in with the male ... don't fall prey to following "the rules" as they are dictated by people on the internet with more wear and tare on their keyboard than actual experience with ball pythons ... you'll learn more by trying different things out for yourself and keeping note of what works and what doesn't.

Over the last 10+ years I've tried just about every combination that you can imagine and they all work to some degree. These days (and for the last few years) I'm rotating males through females enclosures every two days or so. If that doesn't work, I'll try the other way ... or multiple females per male ... or groups of 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 ... basically whatever it takes to stimulate the animals to breed. Change is your friend more than anything else when it comes to breeding ball pythons.

I remove hides from my racks when I'm breeding ... not because I'm worried about animals being "squished" (isn't an issue for animals of any combination of size), but because I get so excited during breeding season and check on my pairings frequently and disturbing a hide to sneak a peek or take a picture can actually cause a locked up pair to separate in my experience.
