    Breeders: How Many Normals?
For all you breeders, both large and small, how many normal females do you have compared to total females? Do you prefer to just breed co-doms to normals, recessive to norms to get hets, or both?

    Re: Breeders: How Many Normals?
I have quite a few normal adult females. In fact I only have two non-normal females that are breeding size. But, that is changing slowly.
As I get more het and morph females grown to adult size, I will replace the normals. Just due to size constraints, I can't continue to raise the numbers of snakes infinitely.
I've been told that having 4+ normals to each co-dom breeding male is optimal. Right now, I'm probably well over that, depending on which females are right at breeding weight.
I want to eventually have only a few breeding normal females, with most being hets, morphs or the few fancy/odds that I really like.
I prefer to breed co-dom to normal, but will breed visable recesives to normals to get hets. My name is nothing so far in ball python breeding, so I can't charge preminum prices for hets. I intend to sell het males to people I know that need a break. The het females will either be held back, or sold at a good price. If no one wants to risk getting a het female from me, I'll be happy to hold them until I breed them myself after all. They can be replacements for the normal females I phase out.
I will eventually be concentrating on combos, but with my group right now, I haven't that luxary yet.
    Hope this helps

all of my females are normal right now. I'm not sure i'm going to get any more, but i couldn't imagine 'replacing' them, so it would seem i'll always have at least a few. who knows though, right?

I have mostly normal female breeders, and about 5 morph females ready to breed this year. In the next couple of years, however, that will change.

    On the really small front...

I have 2 normal females, and a chocolate hypo female. (Chocolate hypos seem to be pretty underrated, perhaps because it's a relatively subtle look. Next year I get to find out what it does when you mix it with spider. :)
I'm pairing all three with my pastel in a couple months.

I have two normal females. I'd always planned on working with more hets and stuff, but I am breeding balls on a fairly small basis.
