    Can Rats Eat Figs?
My co-worker gave me a ton of figs today (which I love!), but there's just no way I can eat them all before they go bad. She has a fig tree, and often brings me fresh picked figs.

I know there are some fruits that they shouldn't be given, does anyone know if figs are one of them? I think the rats would love the ones I can't eat.

The wild ones here love them. I've never given them to my feeders but I figure if I can eat it, they can too.

Thanks Wes! I don't suppose you put trackers on those wild rats to make sure they didn't keel over dead later, did you? :P

Well I had a google around Robin at all my favorite rat sites and I can't find anything specifically against rats eating figs so likely it's fine. As with any new food, just give it as a treat and see how they do with it. Rats, unlike a lot of other rodents, are very careful of new and unknown foods so generally won't do more than nibble at it carefully at first anyways (well except for some like my piggie girl Stubby who is basically a stomach with some other limbs and a head attached LOL).

Judging by the numbers I've seen in and around various fig trees, partially eaten fruit, rat droppings, seeing the rats themselves, I'd go with it's fine for them.

Keep in mind that figs are mostly comprised of sugar, so they aren't a really great food item to give in any quantity, but as a treat should be fine.
