Albino's sensitive to light?

I was thinking, Albino's get there genetics from them lacking the pigment for the darker colors, or something like that, but that also causes them to have red eyes. When I take my albino out he is crazy skittish and moves a lot more then my normal male does and he seems to hide his head a lot more then my normal. Would them lacking the darker pigments and having red eyes make their eyes more sensitive to light?

Yeah Albinos are more sensitive to light, as the lack of melanin when the eyes are devleoping has an efeect on the retina. Thats all i can remeber for now but it is to do the albinism

i know that alot of albino people are legally blind so it would def. make sense that the same happens in snakes!

It makes sense that they might be more sensitive to light, but I don't think it should just be assumed. My albinos don't act any differently in light than my other snakes, at least that I have noticed. It would be interesting to do some sort of study with large numbers of albinos in normals placed in the exact same situations and also have a control group.

I don't have enough albinos to do it, but I know there are some that do!

I agree Justin ... I have a fairly large group of albino ball pythons and they don't act any differently than my other ball pythons either when they are removed from their hides or while being photographed.

That sound weird, but awesome....

Could it also be do to handling/personality issues aswell? :confused:

Because Ive noticed that with my albino rat too...compared to the normal black eyed ones
