What are some not so popular snakes out there?

Currently i own rtb and bps but everyone has them. When i went to daytona it seemed at least half or more were ball pythons. Not that i didn't enjoy the choices its just i think it would be neat to own and breed something a little more rare. Now i don't want anything bigger than a rtb that about the biggest i go(at least for now). I do love the idea of live birth so any boa species that not to many people are into currently would be perfect. I just want to do some research it always fun to research new possible creatures to obtain! Heck even some cool lizards might trip my trigger. Give me some ideas to research, and in advace thanks! Now i have to back to work.

I currently am starting to breed ball pythons. I also want to work with a couple of different species down the road though just as side projects.

I have recently found out about a couple of species of rat snakes that interest me a lot.

The beauty snakes, such as blue beauty and taiwan beauty, which I believe are considered subspecies of the same species (elaphe taeniura or orthriophis taeniurus, apparently their scientific name was recently changed)

Tiger rat snakes (spilotes pullatus)

If you are interested in pythons, I would give the lesser kept Austrailian species a shot: Anthill pythons, Children's pythons, Blackheaded pythons or womas.

As far as colubrids....Old world ratsnakes are awesome......Bamboo ratsnakes and mandarin ratsnakes are two of my favorites.

If you are interested in other boas, give rainbow boas a shot. Most keep brazilians, but you can get into columbians or another local which are less common.

How about ringed pythons? They're sooo cool! And a Woma or Taiwian Beauty are great too..

kc261, you have very good taste. I own a blue beauty and a tiger rat and they are both awesome. And you are correct, the beauties are now Orthriophis taeniurus.

If you want something a little smaller, look into trinkets. They are about the size of corns but I find them much more interesting. And like Daniel said ,bamboo and mandarins are both nice.

I think Asian Ratsnakes like Blue Beauties and Trinkets won't stay unpopular for long. The more people who get to know them, the more people fall in love. :love: They're awesome snakes!

Thanks for all the replies. I own a corn snake and i would never sell it. The little guy is actually what got me into snakes. I don't think i could ever get into breeding them or anything like them. They are to wiggly and squirmy. I do like rainbow boas a lot and WOW those womas are gorgeous. Anything you can think of that is a little slower moving like my rtb and ball pythons. Maybe after researching i just figure out to just keeping adding to what i have, ha. Eventually i have to get a pair of tree boas. That bright green aboreal snake has always been my favorite snake since i was a wee boy, then i saw the blue phase and in that single moment i craped my pants. But like i said before looking never hurts it just boosts my knowledge about herps.

Does any pet store or breeder sell Sandiago Californian Kingsnakes (the kind that is completely black except for that attractive vertabral spine)? That would be good stock and they should sell them more often.

Hets from TopShelf, Carolina reptiles, tony hurt etc. Anything from Bigdaddy (aka joey capones new B----) And Mr.C from Fauna. If I think of anymore I'll just post it here..
