    Marion Jones & Steroids
So what do you all think?

    http://www.suntimes.com/news/comment...dit08b.article

Should she be stripped of her medals? How long after the fact can medals be stripped or someone removed from a hall of fame, etc. What message has this given to all the young girls out there that hero worshipped Marion? Can anyone compete at that elite level without these performance enhancers?

Personally I think Marion should do the right thing and willingly give back any medals she won while using steriods.

I saw this on the news the other day and how upsetting. It really is a shame. I watched her apology and I do believe it is sincere but she should still be held acountable.

I definately believe that she should voluntarily surrender her medals. If she won't do this, legal action should be taken; she did not win them fair and square. I know that the news mentioned possible jail time. I am not that sure that this is appropriate; maybe probation and community service for her would be more productive than serving hard time? Our prisons are already filled with incorrigable criminals and I do no think she is one, for coming out and finally admitting her wrongdoing.

the really crappy thing is that they might take away the gold medals from all the members of her Olympic relay team, even though the other members aren't even accused of doping.

Well after doing a short search of my own, I found an article that lists other athletes that got stripped of their medals after finding (years later) their use of drugs.

    http://www.abcnews.go.com/Sports/sto...3697955&page=1

It lists here though that one of Jones' medals would go to the 2nd place Thanou who herself has had drug issues of her own.

It is such a shame that these people don't have the confidence in themselves to be able to accomplish something on their own without drug enhancements. But yes, personally I think that her medals should be taken away.

It will be interesting to watch how this develops further. Part of this plea was so the IOC could go after the company and its head that supplied her. This same company has links to Barry Bonds (or so the press says)...so I wonder if he will have any fallout from this - but it sure raises questions about how truthful he has been?
